No excuses. A correction and an apology.

When I arrived at the United States Naval Academy on June 30, 1969, I was told that you can make it through life with five "basic responses": (1) yes, sir; (2) no, sir; (3) aye aye, sir; (4) I'll find out, sir; and (5) no excuse, sir. Fifty three years later I need to revert to my basic responses.

On Saturday night, I published a post stating that the Board's statement at the annual meeting that the Third Quarter Financial Results had been published was a "lie." In fact, the Third Quarter Financial Results had been published, but were mis-labeled. In any event, an administrative error is not a "lie." I was wrong to refer to the administrative error in posting the Third Quarter Financials as a "lie" and wrong to use a sarcastic post to do so, and I have no excuse for making that post. I unreservedly apologize for the post. It was premature and unfair and I very much regret publishing it. I have deleted the post, but this post will remain on the Blog as a reminder to me and others that I acted unfairly.

I will reach out to John Conover to individually apologize to him and I will be far more circumspect in the future and stick to stating facts and providing analysis rather than characterizing anyone else's actions. I don't hide behind "anonymous" postings. I've repeatedly stated that I will correct errors made in this Blog and by this post I am doing so.

  2. Thank you, Chad for your honesty. Not something we can count on from the CR Board/Management.

  3. As much as this is appreciated, I’ve seen your new email and the campaign clearly designed by you using your front man Al …

Speaking of facts, how do you know the numbers for the right budget, absent data? Are you guessing or playing to the crowd?

If we had elected you to the Board, would you opine in advance of the information and analysis? I really don’t thing that you would. So to do so after losing the election looks suspiciously
like a defensive reaction. Both your message and your messenger need some thinking.

  4. Why doesn’t anyone ever look at the extreme turnover from Tim Bakels senior management team? HR, facilities directors, F&B directors, etc… it’s beyond insanity yet no one knows since this lunatic controls everything. He has club cameras that he watches members from home!!

    1. I’ve heard about the cameras at his house before from employees that would get bullied from him when he sits on his couch at night. Crazy! Maybe that should be a post… “the end of a lunatic”.

  5. Bakels needed to be gone years ago. He is so in the Board’s pocket; they count on him for all the gossip and inside info. He is their “point man”.

    1. Even the Board has had enough. We unanimously agreed it’s time for his retirement. Enough is enough.

  7. Any chance we had to internally hire a great GM has been lost due to his poor leadership and toxic culture. How did this happen at our beautiful place?! Glad he is leaving.

  8. How did it happen? It happened because the Board failed to supervise the GM. They were informed by members exactly what was going on but failed to manage. It is on them completely.

    1. Sad. We just learned Eric B is no longer with club either. Very disappointing to lose good, hard working individuals.
